Delicious Smoked Meat for Steak and Chicken Salad

Smoked meat for steak and chicken is my favorite smoked meat to eat! Once a month or every 6 weeks or so, we spend an afternoon using our smoker to smoke meat and vegetables.

We then portion the smoked goodness out into one meal servings and freeze them all. Using the smoked meat of steak and chicken, we are able to make a salad and a variety of different types of meals. In some of the salads, we use greens and in others we use pasta.

As empty nesters and cooking for two, these meals are more than enough for us. Ray takes his lunch to work each day and the leftovers make that possible. We got over 4 meals out of this one meal!

This post will be about just one of the meals we make with the smoked meats that we smoke and freeze. To read the post on how to naturally smoke meats, you can find it at How to smoke meat naturally.

Corn Chow Chow Relish Shelf life

perfect corn chow chow relish

Not that this corn chow-chow relish will last very long, but if you do not use a lot of it, I have seen it last over a year on the shelf if properly canned correctly.  Also, be sure to inspect any food product when opening. Observe if there are any signs of mold present.

Most importantly, check to see if there is a foul smell.  If any of the signs are present, dispose of the food properly.  Ensure that your family pets will not get into it.  If it is not consumable for humans, it is not consumable for your pets. Ways to Boil Eggs

eggs boiled correctly

I use two ways of boiling eggs. It all depends on what mood I am in. The first way is if you don’t own an Instant Pot.

  1. STOVE METHOD: Put eggs (ours are room-temperature and fresh) in warm water in a pot on the stove. Boil the water, as soon as it boils, turn off the heat. Cover with a lid and set the timer for 8 minutes. Immediately plunge in cold water.
  2. INSTANT POT: Put eggs on a trivet, add enough water (usually a cup), out the eggs on manual for 5 minutes to cook time, 5 minutes of natural release, 5 minutes in cold water.

I store my boiled eggs in a canning jar with the shells on or if I only have one or two, I put a “B” on them with a pencil and put in my egg holder.

If you would like to know more in-depth about the many ways I boil my eggs, check out my post How to Boil A Perfect Boiled Egg. Also, don’t throw your eggshells away, as they are good for composting! Smoked Veggies

After cooking your smoked meat, since you already have the smoker hot, it’s the perfect time to go ahead and continue with more additions to your meal, so may as well add your vegetables. Vegetables infused with the smoke taste so much better.

My favorite vegetable to put in the smoker would be corn on the cob. I absolutely love using my candle warmer to infuse garlic and rosemary with my Homemade Raw Milk Butter and adding some of my homemade Garam Masala on top of my corn!
