Homemade flaky biscuits from scratch for two is an easy recipe to make. This recipe for flaky and fluffy biscuits from scratch include just a few ingredients. These biscuits would go great with any biscuits and gravy dinner!
I like to pre-make at least 4 batches in ½ pint canning jars. I add all the dry ingredients so when I want to whip up a small batch of buttermilk biscuits. I just place all the jar mixture into a mini-blender with the butter and pulse. Then I add that mixture to a bowl and incorporate the buttermilk and the rest is history.

Cooking for Two and Premade Biscuit Jars
Cooking for two can be a challenge because it’s the same amount of work just for a little return. I have another post for The Fluffliest Sourdough Waffles for Two you may find helpful if you find yourself cooking for two!
I prefer to pre-make the biscuit mixes, (see how-to below), it saves time in the long run, especially if I am really busy blogging and making videos. I even pre-measure the butter and wrap them individually in the fridge or freezer and mark the bags with the word “biscuits”. This way I will always have the correct amount, I don’t have to measure and this saves time in the long run.

How to Make Premix Biscuit Jars
- In each pint jar (I like to make four jars at a time)
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (less if you prefer)
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- Place a canning jar ring and lid on tightly
- Store in a cool, dark place
Note: It’s best not to have the salt and sugar touch the baking soda in the jar if possible.
Ingredients for Homemade Flaky Biscuits
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder (not baking soda)
- 2 teaspoons sugar (I use sugar in the raw)
- ½ teaspoon salt (less if you prefer)
- 3 tablespoons cold butter (even frozen butter works well if using a processor)
- ½ cup buttermilk (room temperature is best)

Directions for Making Biscuits in a Food Processor
- Put all the ingredients except the buttermilk in a mini-blender
- Pulse lightly (don’t make to thin, a few butter chunks are great)
- Put blender mixture in a bowl
Hand Mixing Homemade Biscuits
- Add the buttermilk
- With a wooden handle, stir gently to incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients (like shaggy Artesian bread)
- Do NOT overmix this is biscuit, not yeast dough!
- Using a silicone spoon helps to get the sticky dough off the wooden spoon
- Put all on a silicone mat
- Add a little flour to the mat and the top of the dough
- Knead a very few times, adding a little flour each time
- Cut the biscuits out with a cutter dipped in flour
- Place the biscuits in a well-seasoned cast-iron pan
Bake for 10-18 minutes depending on the oven (wood-stove, toaster-oven, and the conventional oven will differ)

In Conclusion
Making biscuits for two can sometimes be a lot of effort. But, it’s worth it. By premaking, a few batches and having them premeasured in a jar is a huge timesaver. You will only need to add the butter and buttermilk.
The biggest timesaver for me is the food processor which eliminates cutting in the butter by hand. The silicone mat keeps my counters clean and cleaning up is a breeze.

Making the recipe this morning! Loved using silicone mat to work the dough. Keep my hands from getting so messy. Since I am allergic to dairy and so is my great granddaughter, I made buttermilk by adding vinegar to oat milk and let it sit for a few minutes. Going to make up the jars today to be prepared! Thanks for the recipe and video!
These looks so good! I love the addition of buttermilk to recipes because I think it really improves the flavor and the nutritional profile! Thank you, Jersey!
Thanks for stopping by Aly 🙂 I hope you like them.
The recipe can be easily doubled. I halved it from when I had a larger family, where does the time go? 🙁
Thank you! I try to make use of that pan since I love it so much 🙂 The blender really cuts down on mixing, especially if the room is hot and the butter starts to melt.
Thank you! Makes less work, not having to cut them open lol
Thank you for sharing this time efficient recipe! I love the shape of your biscuits, so creative!
I love that pan! This is a great idea. I’m going to have to try making biscuits in a blender.
I suppose someday I’ll be cooking for two. It’ll be good to know how lol. Thanks for recipe Jersey! Love that cast iron.
These look amazing! I think I am going to have to try them, thanks for sharing 🙂
